Jess Towey

Alumni of Theta Chapter
2018

Jess graduated from Mansfield University in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a concentration in Forensic Science. Since graduation, she has started her first year as a PhD student at West Virginia University in the biology department. In addition to classes and working on my her own research, she is a graduate research assistant. She currently works in a lab to help with ongoing research projects in microbiology and bioinformatics. In the future, she hopes to continue research in this field and eventually become a professor.

Looking back on her undergraduate career, Jess realized how much she's changed over the course of four years; "I started as a shy, nervous freshman, unsure of my path in life. I went to the student organization fair and took information for every club that seemed interesting, hoping to meet people with similar mindsets and aspirations. During my spring semester of freshman year, I found just that. When I received an email from Phi Sigma Pi, I was hesitant to check it out. Greek organizations were not something I was interested in, but I thought I would give it a try. Going to the rush events was the best decision I could have made. The brothers were amazing and welcomed me into their family. I met my closest friends through the fraternity and learned a lot! I developed leadership skills, starting as treasurer my sophomore year and transitioning to president of the fraternity for my last semester at Mansfield. This helped me gain confidence that I lacked when first entering college. The fraternity truly does represent scholarship, leadership, and fellowship. It helped shape my college experience and I am grateful that I was part of such an amazing organization."
